Summer Holidays Are Approaching

We are in a very nice period of the year: summer holidays are approaching. Summer has been in the air for a few months now and in a few days I will be leaving for Sardinia with my husband and our son, who, even if he is almost 19, still appreciates coming on holiday with us.
We will go on vacation in a beautiful village in the Gulf of Asinara, Lu Bagnu. Sea view apartment from two terraces. Not only sea view, the sea can also be felt and heard by opening the window, so close it is. Beautiful sunsets accompanied by an aperitif in an idyllic setting. Not by chance they call it Sunsets Bay.

What will I do on vacation? I want to get up in the morning calmly, have breakfast with my husband, get ready to go to the beach to take our long morning walks, which are so good to me. The feeling of my feet on the sand is priceless, it makes me feel good when I put my feet on a soft silky ground, which at that time of the morning is warm. It is an energizing contact that puts me in a good mood.

Then go home to pick up our son, who likes sleeping long, and take the car to find a new beach to explore. Lie down in the sun, take a swim in the sea, get dry with the warm sea breeze. Read the books by Guillaume Musso that I have downloaded on the e-reader, practise meditation, listen to music. Eat grilled fish, a good pizza, a special pasta dish. Take a walk in the town centre, eat an ice cream, buy some souvenirs that will brighten the dark winter days.

Le vacanze si avvicinano

Siamo in pieno periodo di vacanze. L’estate é nell’aria giá da qualche mese e tra qualche giorno parto per la Sardegna con mio marito e nostro figlio, che, anche se é giá grande, apprezza ancora venire in vacanza con noi.
Andremo in vacanza in uno splendido paesino nel golfo dell’Asinara, Lu Bagnu. Appartamento vista mare da due terrazze. Non solo vista mare, il mare lo si puó anche sentire aprendo la finestra tanto é vicino. Splendidi tramonti accompagnati da un aperitivo in un quadro idilliaco. Non a caso la chiamano la baia dei tramonti.

Cosa faró in vacanza? Voglio alzarmi al mattino con calma, fare colazione con mio marito, prepararsi per andare in spiaggia a fare la nostra lunga passeggiata mattutina, che per me é un toccasana. La sensazione dei piedi sulla sabbia é impagabile, mi fa sentire bene quando appoggio il piede su un suolo morbido come seta, che a quell’ora del mattino é ancora tiepido. E’ un contatto energizzante che mi mette di buon umore .

Poi tornare a casa a recuperare quel dormiglione di nostro figlio e prendere la macchina per andare a cercare una nuova spiaggia da esplorare.

Sdraiarsi al sole, fare il bagno, asciugarsi con la brezza calda del mare. Leggere i libri avvicenti di Guillaume Musso che ho scaricato sul lettore, fare meditazione, ascoltare musica. Mangiare pesce alla griglia, una buona pizza, un piatto di pasta speciale. Fare una passeggiata nel centro del paese, mangiare un gelato, comprare qualche souvenir che allieterá le buie giornate invernali.

Are You Bossy or You just Have Better Ideas?

I read this in one of my colleague’s office, and I started to think about it. There are people who behave bossy and other people who seem more co-operative, they like working in team, sharing ideas, and are accountable. Are they natural born leader?

I consider that being a manager does not mean being a leader. Leaders have natural charisma, manager can be sometime a pain in your neck.

What makes the difference? The personality, of course. You cannot be a leader if you are not a good listener for instance, do not think about everyone’s well-being but only at your own. Natural born leader strive for creating a positive working environment so that everyone feels included and part of an organisation that cares.

If leaders are not managers, maybe they will create a bit of chaos and confusion but they should be listened by the management, as they may have followers who share their vision.

What about if you are a manager but not a natural born leader? You should try to listen carefully to your people’s needs, aspirations and ambitions. You should avoid abusing from the power that your position entails, you should avoid making favouritism among your staff, and you should also refrain from micromanaging people. In one word, you should not be bossy. Your ideas are as much valuables as your people’s ideas.

Ti senti leader o capo?

Ci sono persone che si comportano in modo naturalmente autoritario e persone che invece sono più propense alla collaborazione, al gioco di squadra, condividono idee e si prendono responsabilità. Possiamo considerare quest’ultime, leader naturali? Essere capo non significa necessariamente essere un leader. I leader hanno un carisma naturale, i capi a volta sono insopportabili.

Dove sta la differenza? Naturalmente nella personalitá. Non puoi essere un leader se per esempio non sei capace di ascoltare, di lavorare in squadra, di pensare al benessere altrui oltre che al tuo. I leader naturali si battono per la creazione di un ambiente di lavoro positivo, inclusivo e che ti faccia sentire parte di un’organizzazione che si prende cura di te.

Se i leader non sono manager, forse possono creare un po’ di caos e confusione ma dovrebbero essere ascoltati dal management perché hanno sicuramente dei follower che condividono la loro visione e la loro idea.

Se invece un manager non è leader? Dovrebbe cercare di ascoltare attentamente le persone con le quali lavora, per conoscere i lori bisogni, le loro aspirazioni e le loro ambizioni. Dovrebbe evitare di abusare del potere attribuito dalla posizione che occupa. Dovrebbe evitare favoritismi tra lo staff e dovrebbe evitare anche di fare micro-management.

5 Myths about Entrepreneurs and Business People

I think that I am going to say something obvious now: being an entrepreneur or a business person is not easy. However, their personal and interpersonal characteristics and skills are not obvious. Some seem unrealistic and they are like myths. Here are five of them.

1.  Entrepreneurs love risk. There is nothing more false than that. Apart from some people, such as those, for example, who do extreme sports, entrepreneurs and business people prefer trying to control risks, like most of us. They analyse potential risks and draft a management plan for each category of risk they identify.

2. Entrepreneurs and business people are visionaries. Actually, they test their ideas day after day. Entrepreneurs and business people are very flexible people with a great spirit of adaptation. Their idea can also change dramatically because of the market needs.

3. Entrepreneurs and business people know how to make predictions. I think entrepreneurs and business people trust more what they do. Any prediction they can make is destined to clash with the reality that changes more and more quickly. Entrepreneurs and business people learn to trust their own intuition.

4. Entrepreneurs and business people are not like us. Well, yes, they are like us, they were not born entrepreneurs or business man/woman, but they have became one. Like all things, you can learn the art or science, as you prefer, of entrepreneurship. What is important is the business idea to be developed, the rarer or more unusual, the better. It is not even important to know how to draft a business plan. You could learn it in business schools or even download it from the Internet. The business plan may be useful to guide you through the business process and if you want to ask for financing or sponsorship. Entrepreneurs and business people try daily on the ground their business model and they learn from the market, from their customers and potential customers.

5. Entrepreneurs are successful on their own. This is also false: entrepreneurs and business people shall be able to count on a team and work with them. Nowadays it is unthinkable to be able to do everything by yourself. The things to do are thousands and sometimes complex, you need to work with many people with different competencies and skills, and that can easily work with each other.
